Compression Garments

The key facet in the long-term management of chronic oedema*

Lymphoedema

*According to Mary Todd, Clinical Nurse Specialist “Compression is the key facet in the long-term management of chronic oedema.”

Compression reduces and improves swelling, as well as improving skin changes and shape. Compression is a cornerstone in treating Lymphodema.

As an independent practitioner, I have access to a number of alternative manufacturers of compression garments that can be selected to provide the correct size, type and form to meet each persons individual needs and even tastes with colour options.

Lymphoedema is a long-term (chronic) lymphatic system condition that causes swelling in the body’s tissues. It can affect any part of the body, but usually develops in the arms or legs.

Sports

A growing trend among professional and amateur sportsmen and sportswomen is the use of gradated compression socks or sleeves to improve their athletic performance and recovery. Whether it is during the actual event, after the event, or while travelling, today’s sports men and sportswomen are making graduated compression socks and sleeves a part of their everyday sports equipment.

The basic principle of true graded compression with the strongest pressure at the ankle when the blood is properly circulated, it restores much needed oxygen and nutrients to tired muscles that have been deprived during work outs or bouts of high activity. Compression garments help muscles regenerate more quickly and efficiently, removing lactic acid that has built up.

Wearing of properly fitted compression socks helps with encouraging light legs when travelling and enhancing the circulation through gentle pressure. This ensures your legs feel comfortable whilst travelling and can also reduce swelling.

As a qualified practitioner in Lymphoedema garments, you can be measured for correctly fitting compression garments, supports for sports and travel, and pressure relieving orthoses for vein therapy, scar therapy and orthopaedics, ensuing your legs feel comfortable.
